Lebensraum

A social commentary.

Bayonetted

It seems so fast, too fast even. School is starting tomorrow. Tsk tsk. Somehow the holiday just seemed to breeze past me. It was like just yesterday that school ended and June didn't even exist at all.

I need a breather.

Haha. I am so crap. Like C.R.A.P.

Seeya guys in school tomorrow! Wonder what the life road has in store for me.

Boo!

Flash BACK

Sometimes life always has its turns that no one ever expects, and after the conversation I had with Oswin a few seconds ago, I think this premonition and idealogy of my is more real than ever. I guess life really is a rollercoaster, you never know what's coming your way. The tiredness as you're ascending that damn it slow slope, or the coveted, crazy, hair-raising, exhilarating rush down those monster tracks. Our lives are unexpecting and unknowing.

Today I reminisced about the seedling days in Chinatown with Mas while taking the blardy slow 969. It's like that area holds so much memories and good days that sometimes I wonder what the heck am I doing in gawdy Admiralty. Maybe if I ever move to the East Coast area I will think back of the good old days in Admiralty where I hanged out at the Mississippi playground with fellow primarians and going to like See Han's house to chill out for nets and stuff (I think I'll still come back to Admiralty for Net, its where my church life boomed).

Thinking of the old neighbours (most of them probably dead by now although I still remember this really nice old man who had like tonnes of birds), the no-lifts, the coffee shops, the hawker centres, the charsiew, the chinese life, the cantonese everywhere, the atmosphere, the tang ren jie. I still get that deja vu and yearning to return into the past or at least join the present (the result of that yearned past) everytime I pass by the Tanjong Pagar, Chinatown and Outram Park area. The culture and everything, is just so commercialised now, everyone trying to erase and wipe out. I mean now my mother's home where she grew up in is now torn to make room for the alleged tallest HDB flat in Singapore Pinnacle@Duxton. And my old house was demolished for some business building.

And all sorts of crappy renovations here and there. And with each reopening, each "newing", new renovated area, new design, new architecture, we are wiping out the culture and memories of our past. Or at least the concerned's past.

I mean this is not just some cheesy Chinatown love story or some Weng's weird Outram Park affair. I mean this concerns my childhood. Roots. And almost a tenth of my life.

The cultural stuff, the memories are like erased. Just oh so recently the People's Park Complex got renovated. And that was like my favourite hawker centre in Singapore and everywhere. And now its gonna be like completely stranger-rised and weird-ised. All that from young stuff is gone forever. The only place I can sorta connect to cuz everything else is gone is gonna be gone too now.

Shit, I'm just so immersed in this childhood thing. I mean I only stayed in Chinatown till I was four. What right do I have to all these rants right?

But I remember okay. It's not just vague memories but I can actually see them in my brain. Sigh.

I guess life is never a highway. You never get to see where you're going.

That song is nice anyway =)

Grammar errors and all that cheesy English stuff please forgive!

Just an average not so special update

Sometimes you can't get what you want in life. Maybe this saying is real, like R-E-A-L. Cause I don't think miracles will happen and I don't think I'll get a season 2 successful download, GA Marathon on Channel 5 or Starworld, or somehow someway, the Season 2 DVD miraculously is on sale at Video Ezy.

My life sucks.

I had a crossbreed between intellectual and spiritual chat with Issac on Adium today (yes! I have migrated to Adium! It supports MSN, Yahoo, Jabber, GTalk, AIM, and probably almost every IM provider around). I still don't understand some stuff. Perhaps I still need to dwell on this circumstance. Really seek and meditate.

Received my Club21 Card today. Thought it was an iShop membership but it turned out to be a Universal Club21 (do I hear AppleCentreOrchard fans groan? Yes I do!). Thus, I can shop at all Club21 outlets + iShop plus other restaurants and partners at exclusive benefits. Still have to borrow that Flagship Passporte from Muyao when shopping at Crumpler though =P.

Oh gosh, gonna be late for net. Later!

P/s Realised I had a sharp amount of increase in hits for the pass few days. Thanks people!

My Life is kinda Screwed,

like Derek who got screwed by Meridith. Okay, that was out of place, after all I don't doubt that most of my blog goers are Grey's Anatomy fans. Anyhow, my life is screwed.

And so is Bittorent or any of the other torrents and clients. Pissed me off so badly today okay. Tried downloading the second season from these "advanced" Peer to peer technology. Had to ignore those ugly porn on the side of those fugly torrent pages. And when I tried starting the download, the speed was like either 0kbps or 1kbps. The file is 13gb for god's sake! How long do you want me to on my comp for?! 3 years?

Then a forum thread told me to use something like Azureus or BitTornado which was suppose to be faster. And guess what? The thing hanged my baby. It turned out that my router had some NAT server breakdown. So pissed.

Now I have to wait till Monday at 11pm. Which mean I will have to tape it down cuz I can't crash midnight when my school is 1.5hours of travelling time away. Which means the video quality will be down by a whole big dif. And I will be watching fugly episodes of Grey's which is such an injustice because Grey's is NOT SUPPOSED to be fugly.

The DVD is only going to be released in US in September 12. What the heck. And by the time its in Singapore it will be like a month later. And by the time Video Ezy starts offering discounted prices for the 2nd hand copies it will be another few months. and then by then Season 3's going to be on already.

Why doesn't that idiotic iTunes start stocking Grey's. If URGE by Microsoft starts the distribution of these fine pieces of art I think I'm going to jump.

To URGE. What were you thinking bro.

I'm praying for a miracle. Did anyone by chance record the second season on DVD? If you did will you please lend it to me? PLEASE.

I will not go for rehab! Shut up.

It will be a first class sin to ignore such a fine piece of crafted genius.

So now, while I'm stuck on Season One till Monday where they're showing Episode 13 (Episode 13?!) on Channel 5 at 11pm (Its "Begin to Begin". Synopsis: It seems like Izzie is finally getting over Alex when she meets a new patient named Denny Duquette who is awaiting a heart transplant. Meanwhile George has his hands full treating a teenage hemaphrodite. Courtesy of GreysAnatomyOnline.com), I will gorge myself with anything GA I can find- OST, Podcast etc etc etc.

Help! Shucks, forgot I was suppose to preserve the addiction.

Eww.

Grey's Anatomy is such an awesome show! I am loving every single minute of it. I even read every single word of the credits part of the show. It's just so perfect and wonderful. The sex references, the plot, the cast, the acting, it's really no wonder they had so many awards and all.

Well, I have just finished the first Season like 3 times on DVD. Second seasons not on DVD yet, doubt I'm gonna buy it though- gonna cost a lot much more than the first one *crosses fingers*. So I just gotta live with the Channel 5 factor. It's really a shame that they don't sell it on iTunes Music Store, if not- I'm so gonna get it.

My favourite patient so far is Jamie from the 7th episode of the first season: The Self Destruct button. She's so blardy cute- and her parents seem like such nice people.

Gawd, I'm getting too much into the show. This craziness hasn't been on since Hilary since and that was like in 2003. But now it's even worst cuz I'm even listening to their podcast!

So now I'm waiting for next monday... Arg.

I'm nuts- first it was Hilary, then Macintosh then Grey's. My brain is a slave to the crazy world culture.

Shit.

Holidays

While I have been a rock enthusiast lately, listening to cool bands like Switchfoot, Jars of Clay and Coldplay. However, my sudden outburst in this genre does not include all rock. I have recently paid attention to Three Days Grace, a really angsty group. Pretty good music actually, but the lyrics is just so angry and outburstful that I really have to shut it off. I mean, is our world coming to such a sad stage that people have to sing "I hate everything about you" and "I feel so much better that you're gone forever".

(I treat the F word in music and literature as expression of culture and emotion- although not saying that I promote the use of it)

So yea, rock music is good (although a huge pain in the ass to some), but not all- largely contributed to the angst factor. I mean, no matter how bad the situation is- it can't be as bad as Happy Tree Friends.

Grey's Anatomy is an awesome show! I finished 5 episodes in a day! I could have completed the first season but decided the fun had to last. Arg, I am now officially a Sandra Oh fan. I hope she wins the next Golden Globe/Emmy/Oscar/Whatever for Best Supporting Actress (for some reason no bloody director ever casts her as the heroine *that sounds wrong* in all their shows)!

So everyone should go watch it! It airs on Channel 5 at 11pm every monday =)

Have you ever noticed that friendly characters on our Straits Times use mac/ supports Macintosh products? Lets observe...

Dad of the Foxtrot family is using an eMac to check his mail =)

Jon of Garfield is using an Apple Display most probably also meaning that he is using a Power Mac G5, Mac Mini, MacBook/MacBook Pro/Powerbook =)

And here we observe Jeremy using what seems to be like an iMac G5/Intel Core Duo

Zoe and Hammie are googling with a iMac G4

And lastly...

Jeremy and his iPod!

Yup yup! Comic world is evangelising Macintosh too!

Switchfoot

iTunes
iPod
Mac
MacBook
my Family
The Edge
The Edge's Youth
The Edge's non-Youth people
Jars of Clay
Oh, and God. Yup, God!

But especially Switchfoot.

These few days I have been going through a whirlwind of emotions, or seeing things that I have never really seen before. Thank god for God.

To all those who kinda have that hunch that what I'm talking about concerns you- then it does. Here's what I have to say, hey, we're one happy family. Almighty has placed us of all areas here together. Think you guys know better than me.

Sorry for leaving out the unconcerned. But here is what I have to say about the transfer of songs from my iTunes to iPod. It's freaking fast. It's like less than a second per song!

Gosh.

Has technology gone to that stage yet? So fast even for average techies like you and me?

Oh, and Stomp above, is not the music group but the new Straits Times website.

Saving Private Ryan

Just finished that movie with that wallet friendly DVD and realised that... maybe I am not suited to watch this movie. The gore and stuff was simply too bad and was really... gross. This is the second time I am watching an NC-16 movie without knowing it. The first was also a gory show... Troy. It turned out to be a pretty good show though- both of them. Troy received an IMDB rating of 7 while Saving Private Ryan at 8.0

But I think its not until we watch these overly gorey, and emotional films (plus the f***s and assholes and goddamits and all the other, I would call- self expression), we don't really value life more than we have ever did.

Of course experiencing what the characters are experiencing would definitely prove to be a better encounter with life's purposes- not that I am saying that I want to encounter these brutal moments, after all, anyone would choose peace over war (deep deep down in their hearts), and maybe 5 out of 1 individuals would immediatly forget what they saw or not take it to heart within the next 5 hours of watching whatsover but I do believe movies like these do make an impact on people's lives. Even if their a really puny impact.

So yep, looking out for my next impacting movie. Found out it first from Terence's blog.

Watch the trailer here.

Looking out for it =)

Oh, and I'm surfing on wireless connection now! My house is now blanketed by Wi-Fi or as Apple calls it- Airport.

I can even surf the net in the bath room!

Two cents worth

I watched Singapore Idol today- the first since two years the first season's finale whereby Sylvester Sim and Taufik Batisah were singing against each other. And all the time when I was watching the episode today, I felt my heart crumple up, and felt like crying (although I didn't actually). Not because the songs were so touching, not because they sang so well. But because I was missing my American Idol!

I mean compared to AI, Singapore Idol really can be a flop. It's just an entire carbon copy of the American version. I mean, even the judges, Flo is like Paula, Ken Lim like Simon, Dic and Jacinta just some weird Singaporean stick outs.

Nevertheless, I see some really raw talent in tonight's show. I think Jay's pretty good in terms of voice- and, erm, Roslan too.

And then I think of last season, was the show that bad? Then I remembered my Olindo Cho (Steady Pom Pee Pee) and all the others. And I remembered that I actually enjoyed myself very much watching Singapore Idol. Maybe it was the friends- 2004 came as a time where all of us- innocent Primary 6 students came together and discussed who we liked etc. etc.

But I'm gonna watch tomorrow's results show nevertheless, and then decide whether I will continue watching this series. Wanna see how Singaporeans vote, whether based on popularity or singing talent. I mean Primero is seriously screwed, he has some attitude and I really hope those silly girls that voted for Sly will get real.

Oh well, now? I'm wishing American Idol 6 will hurry up.

Vavavoom!

It has been 'round 6 months since I had changed my skin (otherwise more professionally known as templates) and yea, decided I needed a change. Everytime I change my blog template I kinda get like happy and stuff, and every day for like 1 week the first site I visit when I enter Firefox I go to my (Wahlau!) blog.

Yea yea, egoist whatever.

So anyway, I have the writers' urge in the morning! And have decided to explain this new blog skin! This template is originally entitled Rawk! by Liz from Blogger Templates. You can view the original template from here =) It started off really pinky and stuff and if you browse around my blog you will realise that there are still some minor errors of things being pink. But they harmonise pretty fine so I'm feeling kinda slack now...

This template, although not s-p-e-l-l-e-d o-u-t c-l-e-a-r-y after modifications, is entitled by me BFS Revolution. Kinda cheesy here and there but I really have to give names to different versions of my skins. FYI, the previous one was Growing Affectionately Green, and we had Survivor: Big Fat Smiles, Big Fat Smiles: The Hand blah blah blah.

So yea, say hi to BFS Revolution!

*hi!*

And the theme object of this template, if you notice, are those arrows on the road helping cars to drive properly. They can be found on the underneath of every sidebar section and on the banner on the top. I decided I still liked green, so its now just green and black instead of the earlier and white.

So yea, I'll be sticking to Revolution for round another 6 months, if you notice the trend. I don't think it looks bad at all, so Enjoy!

Going out for lunch with Sam Ian and Muyao soon soon! Gtg!

Roadtrip Malaysia!

Wow, 10 whole days just passed in a blink of an eye. Or maybe more than one blink, 10 maybe? Haha. Anyway, below shows a BFS Exclusive (designed personally by your friendly neighborhood BFS) half map of Western Malaysia (also known as Malaysia Peninsular) which has also charted the route I have taken (on dad's wheels) for the past 240hours!

I didn't label the order of the journey, but it should be pretty guessible. The order goes: Singapore to Kluang, Kluang to Kuala Lumpur, KL to Melaka (I like the old spelling better), Melaka to Gelang Patah (JB) and Gelang Patah to Singapore. FYI Kluang is in Johor and Gelang Patah in Johor Bahru. Hope that was comprehensive enough =)

I was in the Kahang part of Kluang for the first 4 days of Roadtrip Malaysia with 2nd Coy at the Kahang Organic Rice Eco Farm. The photos have not been uploaded to the Official 2nd Coy site thus I am patiently waiting. Shall tell you more about this thunderous experience when the photos arrive!

So, with that on the 4th Day's morning, I was driven out of KOREF on a 4x4 to the middle of the road whereby my parents were waiting. Apparently they overestimated themselves thinking they could reach ulu ulu Kahang early and within 2 hours but they ended getting lost. The very moment I stepped into our rented Ford, I kenna-ed 5 mosquito bites by the same mosquito. Talk about warm welcome.

So we ignored my bites and choped choped to Kuala Lumpur! Malaysia's shopping paradise and capital. I was there for my church's church camp and we held it at Grand Seasons Hotel which is apparently according to the Malaysia Book of Records the tallest Hotel in Malaysia.

That photo isn't taken by me if you're thinking how I managed to take it. It's from asiatravel.com =) In fact I barely had time to take many shots, the camp was kinda of a rushy thing- not that relaxed and all, so I didn't really have that lomo "just take" happy-go-lucky mood. But I guess you guys have seen it all- big hotels, KLCC, and all the other CBD lookalike skyscrapers. It's KL Baby!

I spent my entire free day shopping at KLCC and those other minor malls on Bukit Bintang. Managed to get some pretty satisfactory stuff. Ate at Genki Sushi and the food was pretty horrible. My advice is never to eat restaurant food in KL, always opt for the dirtier, less hygienic conditions. If you look at a place and first thing in your mind is "Eee" you must eat there. Cuz 8 out of 10 the food is gonna be great.

So while I was shopping my head of with friends, my parents were exploring their ways to this waterfall. I wasn't there but thought was worth posting. The shot isn't really a waterfall, more of a rapid. But all the waterfall shots had people inside so I thought I'll protect their privacies.

So after all the hustle-bustle city-life in busy-capital Kuala Lumpur we headed down to Melaka! Land of rich culture and heritage!

My trip there was filled with kids though. Cuz like all our convoy people were younger families so I was like hanging out with babies and toddlers. I guess below would be quite a description.

The cute little boy there is Titus. And believe me, he is seriously cute. He's teething though, so his hands are like saliva filled 24/7 and you kinda get minor stains sometimes after carrying him. And I think the second picture is a kodak moment. Those kids are always running around its quite impossible to get them to stay together, smile and stay still for that split second for a photo.

I managed to get *ahem* wallet-friendly DVDs there. I have already finished watching Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Never got to watch that. I think the book is better than the movie. The endings kinda not tied in. Dahl films never end up the same way as his books. Sad fact.

The food was really good. I guess the highlight would be this Nonya Restaurant.

The food's pretty spicy, so be prepared with like cups of water before you attempt anything. In case you don't know (I didn't), the Nonya culture originates from Melaka, so we were like eating Nonya at its best. I think one of my favorite dishes would be the heibi.

Haha, it's this really-tasty-with-rendang-sauce cracker made up of prawn and other stuffies. Too bad for the seafood allergic though =(

The place has pretty good deco though- most probably collected through the years of nonyahood. The chairs and stuff, the walls carved in nonya-like designs and pottery and stuff littered across the restaurant.

And here are other random snapshots of Melaka (I was feeling more cheery and lomo "just take" happy-go-lucky then)

Which brings me to the end of my roadtrip. Ending with a crossbreed between Hawker Centre and Daipaidong kinda dining atmosphere in Gelang Patah. I had Char Kway Teow and it was absolutely delicious. Low oil, high in tasty.

So yup, that was my Roadtrip Malaysia! Will be back with more when 2nd Coy decides to upload their pictures!

Camp tomorrow!

Currently typing on Pages and listening to “A Moment Like This” by Kelly. I am gonna miss my whitey-ditey oh-so-new baby though. It’s gonna be like abandoned by me while I get thrown into the vast and scary yet beautiful world of naturistic wonder...

Will I meet a bear? Will it be nice and cheery in search honey like neighbourly teddy Winnie the Pooh? Or will it be those scary grossly fearsome man eating monster?

Will I meet wild mountain lions?

Perhaps I’m imagining too much, I haven’t even started packing.

Be back on the 5th with photos! Or if I'm lucky... Sigh
